Warfare and Wine (now live)!

I’m excited to share the first full entry on my new blog, Vini Bellum, where I explore the intersection of military history and viticulture!

This first post takes us to northeast Italy and western Slovenia for a deep dive into the Battle of Caporetto (1917). On the military side, we cover:

  • The Axis breakthrough that shattered the Italian front
  • Erwin Rommel’s daring mountain maneuvers with the Württemberg Mountain
    Battalion
  • The Madsen Light Machine Gun, a lightweight weapon that changed the game

On the wine side, we explore:

  • Italy’s Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia
  • Slovenia’s Goriška Brda, Vipava Valley, Kras, and Slovenska Istra

Each post on Vini Bellum isn’t just “one and done.” I’ll be revisiting entries over time with follow-up content—how to visit these battlefields and, of course, the local wineries.
